This weekend, Emerald Fennell's adaptation of Wuthering Heights takes center stage in the film industry. However, her prior project involving Zatanna is no longer in development, a decision made after she had written a script for the character in 2021.
Fennell shared insights during an appearance on the "Happy Sad Confused" podcast, revealing that her script was influenced by personal experiences as she completed her work on Promising Young Woman. Although she was excited by the opportunity presented by J.J. Abrams, she felt her darker interpretation of Zatanna might not align with the expectations of Abrams or Warner Bros..
Despite her initial enthusiasm, Fennell admitted she has not revisited her script in years and wished she could have met the studio's vision while delivering something remarkable. Currently, there are no updates regarding any live-action adaptations of Zatanna, but fans can anticipate a new solo comic from Jamal Campbell set for release in April.
