Google plans to enhance its Now Playing feature by transitioning it into a dedicated app, as revealed in the latest version of Android System Intelligence. This update aims to modernize the user experience by improving the interface, which currently features a two-tab layout for History and Favorites. The new app will be accessible through the Play Store, and users will be able to manage their settings and song history within this dedicated platform.
The upcoming app, identified as com.google.android.apps.pixel.nowplaying, is expected to offer a more streamlined experience similar to other dedicated Pixel apps, such as Weather. It will also include improvements like better syncing of Now Playing history across devices. The anticipated launch may coincide with the next Feature Drop scheduled for March.
As part of this upgrade, Google aims to introduce additional features that enhance the functionality of Now Playing, which currently relies on Android System Intelligence for background song identification and related features. A new icon for the app has already been located on Pixel devices, signaling the impending changes.
