Many features in Windows have been phased out by Microsoft over the last ten years, reflecting changing user needs and technology. Notably, the removal of Internet Explorer in 2022 marked a significant shift as users transitioned to more modern browsers.
Among the outdated tools still present is Windows Fax and Scan, introduced with Windows Vista. Once a practical solution for sending faxes and scanning documents, this utility has become largely obsolete as faxing fades from typical workplace practices. Many users now prefer alternatives available on smartphones or dedicated applications like Windows Scan, which was launched in 2018.
Another feature, Windows Mobility Center, designed for easy access to laptop settings, has not seen updates for years. Most of its functionalities have been integrated into the Quick Settings menu, diminishing its relevance in Windows 11. The potential removal of these features seems unlikely to impact the majority of users.
