Google Docs is enhancing its offerings with the introduction of audio summaries, which will be available in the web app. This feature allows users to access a “Listen to document summary” option via Tools > Audio, alongside the existing “Listen to this tab.” Powered by Gemini, these audio summaries provide quick verbal overviews of document contents from multiple tabs, typically lasting under a few minutes.
Users can adjust playback speed from 0.5x to 2x and select from various voice styles, such as narrator or coach. This functionality is designed to help users efficiently catch up on notes or reports before meetings. The rollout of audio summaries is set to occur over the next few weeks for subscribers of several plans, including Business Standard, Plus Enterprise, and Google AI Pro for Education.
Additionally, Google Docs has implemented the Google Sans font and has launched a full Material 3 Expressive redesign for Google Drive and the Android version of Google Docs.
