Google Photos is set to introduce a new floating toolbar, which will first be available on iOS version 7.63. This design change, which deviates from the previously established bottom bar used by most Android apps, aims to enhance user interaction through a pill-shaped container that houses essential actions relevant to the current page.
The toolbar features a persistent layout, meaning it remains visible during scrolling, and includes a floating action button (FAB) for quick access to Search or Ask functionalities. Unlike the bottom bar, this toolbar is not intended for navigation but is designed to facilitate frequently used actions, such as archiving or deleting items, as demonstrated in Google’s own applications like Google Chat.
With this update, Google aims to streamline its app interface, making it easier for users to engage with their content while maintaining a clean and organized layout. As this floating toolbar is rolled out, further design guidelines are anticipated to accompany the update.
