Google has introduced a new feature for its word processing tool, enhancing the functionality of its Gemini AI. This update, announced in a recent blog post, focuses on improving accessibility by providing users with audio summaries of documents, allowing for a more efficient way to digest lengthy content.
The Gemini-powered audio summaries will let users listen to key points of a document instead of reading through it. Personalization options include choosing different voice styles such as narrator or coach, and users can adjust playback speeds up to 2x. Additionally, a seek bar will facilitate navigation through the audio content.
This feature is accessible through the Tools menu in Google Docs without requiring any settings adjustments from users. However, it is limited to specific Workspace plans, including Business Standard, Plus, Enterprise Standard, and select educational add-ons. The rollout began on February 12, but it may take up to 15 days for all users to receive access to the new functionality.
